It was as though by speaking about it, he had broken spell that would have brought the good fortune. He grew anxious, leaned back on his his seat, crossed his legs, trying to firmly suppress his own distaste for in corruption that was entrenched those contract giving offices. He had long realized that the choice was between remaining a nobody, self-righteously and accepting, sensibly,that the man with the meat was also the same man with the knife. a) Who is ole Supeyo and why has Ole Kaelo come to visit him.
He is Ole Kaelo’s friend, a successful business man whom he considers his mentor and a respected elder in Nasila.
Ole Kaelo has gone to consult him on various issue including business.
b) Why is Ole Kaelo hesitant to say who he has made contract with? Explain your answer.
He is not sure his friend ole Supeyo will accept his plans to do business with Oloisudori.
He feels that it is his guarded secret.
c) What do we learn about corruption in this excerpt?
Corruption is discomfiting. It is entrenched in this
society and it destroys reputation.
d) Describe the character of each of the following as brought out in the excerpt.

ii) Ole Kaelo
i) Ole Supeyo is honest/frank. He tells Ole Kaelo the truth about Oloisudori that he is the most corrupt in Nasila.
He is cautious. He warns Ole Kaelo against doing business with Oloisudori.
ii) Ole Kaelo is corrupt. He does business with Oloisudori who is corrupt and spend a fortune to secure a contract with him.
He is secretive. He had told no one about his deal with Oloisudori.
