Elections for the Presidency in India.
The President is elected to serve for a term of five years. The election is held in accordance with the system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote and by secret ballot. The constitution has a provision for removal of the president
from office through impeachment.
For one to be elected president, the following conditions must be fulfilled:
-He/she must be a citizen of India.
-He/she must be above the age of 35 years.
-He/she should be qualified for election as a member of the House of the People.
-He/she should not hold any office of profit under the government of India. There are elections which are held within states of Union of India. These elections are mainly for the local authorities in the states.
