Noise pollution.
- Noise pollution is experienced in areas near roads, running water, factories, mining areas, quarries, aerodromes (airports), music shop centres, matatu termini, bars and night clubs and public or open air crusades.
- People living near these areas may experience the following problems:
(i) Hearing problems.
(ii) Lack sleep especially for children and patients.
(iii) Public nuisance leading to frustrations and irritation.
(iv) Poor communication leading to misunderstanding where instructions fail to be received correctly.
(v) Cracking of walls.
- Noise pollution can be minimized through the following ways:
(i) Construction of sound proof buildings.
(ii) Location of residential areas away from industries, airports, main roads and bars.
(iii) Banning of unnecessary hooting and playing of loud music in public vehicles.
(iv) Installing generators underground or installing silencers in them.
(v) Giving warning to residents before using explosives to blast rocks.
(vi) Educating people on the effects of noise pollution.
