Answer Text:
Disadvantages of plastic surgery.
(i) Tissues may be rejected.
- The body recognizes the transplanted tissues as “foreign” and mounts an immune response against it which gradually destroys it.
- This leads to a lot of suffering to the patient.
(ii) Sometimes the operation fails and may lead to death or permanent damage on the patient.
- This occurs mostly in cases where the surgery involves tumours or growth
next to the brain or the eyes.
(iii) Some of the operations are very expensive and many people may be unable to meet the costs and have to endure the defects.
(iv) Although plastic surgery may make someone look young
for a few years, this will not stop the aging process.
(v) Emphasis on beauty and pleasing appearance may be seen as idolatry and emperor worship.
- Some people will strive for beauty in order to please and to be adored by others.
(vi) Certain diseases may be transmitted especially where tissues are detached from a “donor” with a disease such as HIV and AIDS.
