1. Definition of the terms science, technology and environment.
(a) Science is the systematic study of the nature and behavior of materials
and the physical universe based on observation, experiment and measurement.
- It can also refer to knowledge arranged in an orderly manner, especially knowledge obtained by observation and testing of facts.
- For example, in Biology, information about living things is arranged systematically according to the nature of the species, characteristics and functions.
(b) Technology is the application of
scientific knowledge in order to provide goods and services.
- Technology has revolutionized the strategies of evangelism. This is because of the use of mass media technology like radio, television, video and internet.
(c) Environment is the external surroundings of an organism.
- It refers also to the various forms of matter, living or non-living that surrounds an organism or in which it lives.
- It involves the social and physical factors that influence the life of an organism mainly in terms of development and behaviour.
- For human beings, environment refers to the totality of their existence and the way they relate to the world.
- This covers the social, political, economic, spiritual and natural environment which comprises living and non-living things.
