Answer Text:
The invited guests (Lk. 14:714)
While Jesus was in the house of the Pharisee, he noticed that some guests were choosing the best places at the table. He used this observation to teach them that when invited to a wedding they should not take seats of honour. Instead, they should sit in the lowest places so that when the host comes he may take them to higher places. Such action
will bring honour to the invited guests. Jesus wanted to teach the importance of humility. That the humble would be exalted and honoured. This indicated that the kingdom of God was not for the Jews only. They would not be given preferential treatment. About those who are to be invited for a feast, Jesus taught that one should not only invite one’s relatives, neighbours or
the rich for they are likely to invite them back. Jesus wanted to teach on the need to give without expecting to be repaid. Such peopled have their rewards in heaven. Jesus wanted to show his concern for the poor, meaning God’s kingdom is for all people.
