Reasons for celibacy
-Economic independence: This may influence the attitude of some young people, especially girls who are in high paying jobs towards marriage. They may consider that they are capable of taking care of themselves and their children if they have any.
-Parental interference: Interference from parents may have a negative impact on a relationship between two young people. For example, a young girl wishing to marry a boy from another community may find herself denounced by her family.
-Disappointing relationships: Some young people remain single because they experienced disappointment in a previous relationship.
-To pursue education: Some people delay getting married and sometimes time runs out on them. There are those who choose to devote their lives in carrying out research in order to make new discoveries to challenge
or improve existing findings, or compete with others who have excelled in the past.
Career demands: Some fail to marry because they hold careers that are demanding and would keep them away from their families for long periods such as soldiers, pilots and cabin crew in planes.
-Lack of guidance and counselling on marriage and family: Some people are ignorant of the fulfilment and the joy that exists in a marriage.
-Discouragement from failing marriages: Children who grow up in a family where a husband and wife are always quarrelling may lose interest in marriage.
-Economic reasons: In modern society today, bride-wealth has been commercialized by some families to the extent that many young men are finding it difficult to meet this expectation.
Poor health: Sicknesses experienced by some young people such as mental diseases, epilepsy and impotence ,may stop them from getting married.
