The meaning of marriage and reasons why people marry:
A marriage is an agreement between a man and a woman who decide to have a lasting relationship as husband and wife. It is a social affair and involves other members of the community. The purpose of marriage is to establish a permanent relationship between husband and wife.
People also marry for the following reasons:
(i) To provide happiness to husband and wife.
(ii) To experience personal fulfilment through sexual union.
(iii) To express their mutual love and comfort.
(iv) To procreate and bring up children.
(v) To enhance the unity of the couple and the families involved.
(vi) To promote the social status of the couple.
Most governments today have fixed a lower age limit of 18 years for recognizing a marriage. This requirement is contained in legal government documents
like the Constitution and the United Nations Convention on the rights of the Child. There are many forms of marriages in Kenya today. Examples of these marriage include church marriage, civil marriages, customary marriages, Islamic marriage and Hindu marriages
