Answer Text: Betrothal and courtship in Christian practice:Most churches do not give definite guidelines on how this should be done, neither do they insist on special rites to mark the occasion. After betrothal, courtship starts and this period which may last a few months or a few years is important in the sense that it gives the intending couple time to study each other and make necessary preparations before the actual wedding.Guidelines for intending couple:-To commit themselves to prayer and the power of the Holy Spirit in their relationship.-To seek counsel on issues pertaining to number of children, spacing, use of contraceptives and how to manage family finances.-To seek good and objective advice especially from those who are older and more experienced.-To avoid jealously when one’s special friend mixes with the opposite sex. One should be able to cultivate trust in one’s relationship such that one can trust the other in the company of others.-To remain chaste until the time they are formally married in church.-To avoid visiting each other frequently as doing this may interfere with one’s personal work, programmes and responsibilities.-To be civil and friendly to those people they have known before. They should not disregard everyone else just because they are in love.
