Answer Text:
CHRISTIAN TEACHING ON MARRIAGE
The Church defines marriage as a covenant between a man and a woman who promise loyalty to each other before God in the presence of Christian witnesses. The Christian teaching on marriage is guided by what the Bible says on the same.
The following are the main teachings:
(a) Christian marriage should be monogamous.
(b) Marriage should be permanent.
(c) Marriage is complete with or without children.
(d) Marriage is a divine institution. Marriage is ordained by God. For example, during creation God created man and woman and commanded them to be joined together in matrimony.
(e) Marriage is for procreation.
(f) Marriage is for companionship: After God had created Adam, He saw that there was need to give him a companion fit for him.
(g) Marriage is for fulfillment of mutual love: The Church teaches that wives and husbands are to relate towards one another with self-giving love.
(h) Marriage is a remedy against sin: Marriage provides people with the opportunity to express their sexuality.
