Answer Text:
Artificial Contraception
-Artificial contraception is the method used to prevent the meeting of a male sperm egg and a female egg after sexual intercourse.
- Some contraceptives prevent conception by ensuring that the sperm does not fertilize the ovum.
- Others prevent the sperm from travelling into the uterus by blocking the entrance of the uterus.
-Diaphragms and cervical caps are examples of mechanical devices for this purpose.
-Others prevent sperms from spreading in the vagina such as the condoms.
-Others kill the sperm such as spermicides, sprays and foaming tablets.
Other types of artificial contraception include:
Hormonal contraceptives:
These are in form of pills or injections. The hormones used in these contraceptives are known as estrogens and progestin.
Intra-uterine devices:
These devices slow down the movement of sperms. They also prevent or undo the implantation of the fertilized ovum
Sterilization:
This consists of minor surgical operations. Both men and women can be sterilized using different methods.
