Answer Text:
The meaning of the last supper
Jesus gave the Passover meal a new meaning.
-The bread represented his body which would be broken for his followers on the cross.
-The wine represented the blood of Jesus which would be shed for salvation.
-The cup represented new covenant between God and his people fulfilling Jeremiah’s prophecy about the new covenant which will be written in peoples’ heart.
-Jesus is the new sacrificial lamb replacing the old Passover lambs sacrificed on the night of Exodus. The sacrificial offering of the body and blood of Jesus was done once and for all.
-The command “do this memory of me” implied that the disciples were to continue celebrating the lord’s supper.
