Lesson on Abortion and reasons for abortion
Answer Text: AbortionAbortion refers to the deliberate removal of a fertilized ovum, embryo or unborn child (fetus) from the mother’s womb before it is capable of living an independent life. Some countries, like the United States and Britain, have legalized abortion for various reasons, such as, ifthe life of the mother is in danger and if the child to be born would be an economic burden to the mother. The Kenyan law forbids abortion but allows it under certain circumstances, for example, if the mother’s life is in danger. However, the practical situation in Kenya shows that some teenage girls and adult women carry out illegal abortions by usingcrude methods such as taking an overdose of drugs, for example, Chloroquine. Some of the reasons for abortion include:-If the pregnancy is as result of rape or incest.-If the child to be born is going to be a burden to the mother.-To save the life of the mother when it is in danger.-To allow the girls to continue with their education or training.-If the child to be born has defects or is deformed.
