Problems affecting Nairobi City.
(i) Unemployment.
- This is caused by heavy streams of migrant youths who come to the city to look employment.
(ii) Housing problems.
- These are created by the rapid growth of population.
- Shortage of houses makes landlords to increase their rent.
(iii) Sound and air pollution.
- Noise from industries, Jua kali sheds, motor vehicles and gaseous pollution emitted from vehicles, industries and recurrent
slum fire pollute the city environment.
(iv) Lack of public utilities and amenities.
- Nairobi city inhabitants experience acute shortage of public utilities and amenities such as sewerage, water supply, schools, health care services, recreational
facilities, good roads and markets.
(v) Traffic congestion.
- Traffic jams especially during rush hours, on Uhuru Highway, Thika road, Mombasa road, Outerring road and inside the city, often brings traffic flow to a standstill.
(vi) Crime and hooliganism.
- Today, there are frequent incidences of theft, burglary, shooting, murder, carjacking and general hooliganism.
