Answer Text:
- Water in beaker is hypotonic to cell sap of adjacent cell and these cells absorbed water through osmosis and their cell sap become less concentrated than those of the adjacent cells.
The process was repeated until water reached the sugar solution.
OR
- Sugar solution was hypertonic to cell sap of the adjacent cells. The cells lost water by osmosis, cell sap become more concentrated than those to the next cells. The process was repeated until the water was drawn from beaker.
