In an experiment, concentrated nitric(V) acid was reacted with iron(II) sulphate. State and explain the observations made.

- Iron (II) sulphate turned from green to brown and brown gas was formed. This is because nitric (V) acid oxidizes iron (II) ions to iron (III) ions, itself being reduced to brown fumes of nitrogen (IV) oxide.
