A person accidentally touches a hot pan and responds as illustrated in the diagram below. Explain how the response illustrated above occurs.
Answer Text: When a finger touches a hot pan, the pain receptors in the skin of the finger are stimulated. A nerve impulse is triggered off and transmitted via the sensory neurone to the grey matter of the spinal cord through the dorsal root. The impulse is then transmitted to the relay neurone via a synapse then to motor neurone through another synapse. Eventually through the ventral root the impulse is transmitted to the effector which is the bicep muscles of the arm. The bicep muscle contracts and the forearm is withdrawn from the pan.
