Simplification of algebraic expressions

-We simplify algebraic expressions by:
i).Opening the brackets.
ii).Collecting the like terms together.
iii).Performing the operation between the like terms.
iv).Combining the constants in the expression. Note: Capital letters and small letters are not like terms.
Example 1.
Simplify: 2x – 6y – 4x + 5z – y.

Example 2.
Simplify: #1/2 a − 1 /3 b + 1/4 a#
