Answer Text:
Location of dots as a factor to be considered when drawing a dot map.
-It’s a difficult exercise.
-There are two methods recommended.
(i) First, calculate the number of dots to be used to show the distribution.
Then, place the dots as evenly as possible over the area concerned.
(ii) The other method takes into account the quantities to be represented and attempts to place the dots in their correct position on the map.
-It requires one to have first hand information about the area to avoid placing dots in a wrong place. E.g population distribution.
-Incase one does not have prior knowledge of the area,
an accurate dot map can be constructed using information gathered from other maps of the area.
-It’s advisable to calculate the number of dots that will be required in areas of dense concentration first.
