Gradient, Y-intercept and X-intercept of a straight line
Answer Text: The gradient/slope of a straight line as discussed earlier is given by #(Delta y)/ (Delta x)# , the yintercept is the point at which the line cuts the y-axis, obtained when the value of x-co-ordinate is 0. The x-intercept is the point at which the line cuts the x-axis, it is obtained when the value of the y-co-ordinate is 0.-The three parameters can be calculated from a given line equation without drawing the line.-When the line is written in the form y=mx +c,Then;-m- is the gradient of the line.-c-is the y-intercept. -To get the x-intercept, we substitute the value of y with 0.Example 1. Find the gradient of the line whose equation is 3 y -6 x + 7 =0Example 2. Find the gradient and y- intercept of the line whose equation is 4x – 3y – 9 = 0Example 3. Find the x- intercept of the line whose equation is y = 2x + 10.
