What do impurities do to both Boiling points and melting points of substances?
Answer Text: Melting of a substance involves absorption of heat energy to break the molecular forces between the molecules of a solid and make the move further part and form liquid, when impurities are added to solid substances, they weaken the molecular forces between the molecules which makes them to melt faster, hence lowering the melting point. On the other hand boiling of a substance involves absorption of heat energy by liquid molecules to gain kinetic energy to evaporate forming a gas, when impurities are added to the liquid, they also gain the kinetic energy, which increases the amount of heat energy to be supplied, hence raising the boiling point.
