Explain three ways in which red blood cells are adapted to their function.
Answer Text: - Absence of nucleus and other organelles to increase space for packaging of haemoglobin.- Possession of haemoglobin which has high affinity for oxygen.- Bi-concave shape to create large surface area hence more packaging of haemoglobin for combining with oxygen.- Ability to change shape/flexible to enable them to pass through or squeeze through narrow capillaries.- Have carbonic anhydrase enzyme which increases #CO_2# transportation.
