Form 1 History: Development of Agriculture Lessons

In this lesson, we are going to look at the changes that marked the agrarian revolution in Britain. They include:
1. Fallows were abolished-The process of leaving land to regain fertility was no longer practiced.
2. Application of new methods of farming. Introduction and use of
fertilizers in farms. Lord Viscount Townsend discovered that clover added nitrogen to the soil and turnips could survive in winter and be used to feed cattle.
3. Use of farm machinery like the horse drawn drilling machine invented by Jethro Tull in 1701 which
replaced the broadcasting method.
