-It inherited an illiterate Kenya and therefore lacked technocrats.
-Vice president Oginga Odinga broke away from KANU and formed an opposition party (KOU).
-Political assassinations of Pio Gama Pinto and Tom Mboya caused animosity towards Kenyatta’s government.
